This Rich Rainey story from late last month on JPAC is worth visiting. I belatedly mention Rich’s story as it is both topical here on Slabbed and because it came out of the blue as the JPAC debacle has fallen out of the news cycle. One thing everyone needs to do is read the Legislative Auditor’s report on the JPAC boondoggle. PDF page 26 (report page 23) of the report contains the reason there is talk about Jefferson Parish Councilman at Large Elton Lagasse role in the JPAC debacle receiving investigative scrutiny given we now know Tim Whitmer is cooperating with the Feds.
Cowardly court backs off Memorial case ~ James Gill
The whole problem with the argument that gives Memorial Hospital a pass in the large number of deaths that happened post Katrina at the hospital is that conditions were also very bad across the city including at other hospitals, like Charity Hospital which was also flooded out. I profiled in depth the plight of the staff and patients at Charity post Katrina, including the fact their morgue was not piled over with dead patients like Memorial’s. The defamation suit filed by the memorial docs against ProPublica and the New York Times over subsequent reporting of the tragedy went nowhere. It also appears the Times Picayune’s efforts to get to the Grand Jury documents in the case are also at an end. The lawsuit filed by the victim’s families against Memorial Hospital settled last July which means we’ve likely heard the last of this in the news cycle.
I have a busy day on tap here in Soggy Bottom. Feel free to add your own links in comments.
And folks I hear there is gonna be lots of fun and games over at Blaine Kern’s place but before we get to that let’s visit with our good friends over at Plaquemines Citizen, who has the invite and letters from Piyush and Nunny on the soiree as we highlight the following comment Plaquemines left here on Slabbed:
I believe this little shin-dig has something to do with a piece of property in Belle Chasse Louisiana that is is the subject of a rather heated opposition to a large development headed to Belle Chasse that includes a Super WalMart. Nungesser is doing what he can to push the development, even though the majority of residents in Upper Plaquemines are against it. The Parish has spent loads of money fighting it, and you wouldn’t even believe the shenanigans involved. The real story is no one is saying is Jindal’s father-in-law is a principal in the company that owns the property. The Court even sealed the documents that reflects the current owners of the property, and the options to purchase the property.
A court in Plaquemines sealing public real estate ownership information? This sounds like Grenta mentality to me folks as Jindy sure has cuddled up extra close to Nunny of late.
Now back to the entertainment. Folks Kern and the other organizers have been somewhat coy on exactly what kind of entertainment will be on tap to regale Nunny and the attendees. But we can make a reasonable guess based on some of what we know in the public record about Nunny and his preferences. Let’s start with Jeremy Alford at Gambit to get a flavor for what Nunny likes:
In 1997, Nungesser was sued for damages by a man named Ryck H. Soto, who had previously worked for Nungesser’s General Marine Leasing. According to the suit, which was filed in Orleans Civil District Court, Soto alleged that he was “wrongly terminated” after Nungesser allegedly made “sexual advances.” Nungesser denied all the allegations, which included requests for oral sex and “exposing his genitals.” Read the rest of this entry »
As Blaine ages his behavior becomes curiouser and curiouser folks. I think the translation of this T-P story on the cancellation of the Krewe of Boo parade is that without a company to loot out, some of the more lavish expenses simply had to be curtailed. After all, Blaine’s various ailments didn’t stop him from very publicly endorsing Nunny for Lite Gov very recently. File this one under life’s a bitch.
Correction, Blaine Kern Sr. was Mr Mardi Gras….
From the you're never too old to stop thinking with the smaller head files I offer legendary Mardi Gras mogul Blaine Kern for the consideration of the Slabbed Nation.
Sued by your own son? If this were a movie project I think the working title could be The Witch that Stole Mardi Gras. Only in New Orleans folks LOL.
